TRAINING PROGRAMS

The course emphasizes conflict avoidance, firearms safety, federal and state laws, legal responsibility, and measurable performance tracking, using the latest virtual simulation technology to improve skills and proficiency.

DURATION: 8-16 hours
CONCEALED CARRY
This course is mandatory for Maryland residents and non-residents applying for an initial Wear and Carry Permit (MD HGP). Training must be completed before submitting the application. The course includes 16 hours of instruction on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A qualification course of fire follows on Wednesday. Detailed information is in your welcome letter. A minimum score of 70% accuracy is required to pass the shooting qualification. Practice rounds are not permitted during qualification. The details of the live-fire qualification course will be included in the welcome letter. Participants will have two days between classes and the qualification day to prepare. VRTA, LLC will have a fingerprinting company present during class, which is not included in the registration fee. This service is offered for convenience and costs $65 for MD LiveScan fingerprinting. Fingerprints are mandatory, but participants may choose their own provider.

FLORIDA CCW OPTION
A Florida Concealed Carry (CCW) Permit may be obtained with the required fingerprints and offers reciprocity in the following states:
Delaware, Iowa, Montana, North Dakota, Utah, Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming. Reciprocity agreements may change. Always verify current laws before travel

Complete a separate set of fingerprints on an FBI FD-258 fingerprint card. Obtain this card from a law enforcement agency or from the fingerprinting company on-site.
PENNSYLVANIA PERMIT OPTION
A Pennsylvania Permit may be obtained after receipt of the Maryland Wear and Carry Permit. Guidance regarding this process will be provided during class. This permit confers carry privileges in:
Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming. Reciprocity agreements may change. Always verify current laws before travel.

Applicants must fire live ammunition and score at least 70% to qualify. This is required by the Maryland State Police for submitting the application.

A qualifying handgun in good working condition and 25 rounds of ammunition must be brought to the range qualification session. Firearm rentals are available at the range for an additional cost, if needed.

If a participant does not attend or pass the live-fire qualification, they must reschedule during the next VRTA, LLC Wear and Carry course, and a $50 re-qualification fee will be required.

No refunds are provided for any reason. All sales are final, regardless of circumstances, including cancellations, rescheduling requests, or nonattendance.
CLASS STARTS PROMPTLY AT 8:00 A.M.
arrive by 7:30 a.m. for check-in. Late arrivals more than 30 minutes forfeit their seat and registration fee.

Pre-Requisites

No prior experience is required; however, all participants must be proficient with the firearm used for qualification. Instructors are unable to provide assistance during the qualification session.

Participants must be legally eligible to possess a firearm.

DURATION: 4 HOURS
MD HANDGUN QUALIFICATIONS LICENSE
The Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL) course is a mandatory 4-hour training for handgun buyers. It covers state law, home safety, and operation. The course has classroom instruction and a live-fire section where participants show safe handling. Participants must demonstrate safe operation and handling, and basic proficiency in the use of a firearm, to a Qualified Handgun Instructor to qualify. Participants must safely shoot the weapon and hit the target in less than 15 yards. Courses require only 1-2 shots; it is not intended to be a difficult "passing" test, but a "familiarization" with shooting.

POLICY:
CANCELLATION POLICY:
If I cancel more than 72 hours before class, a $50 rescheduling fee applies. Cancellations within 72 hours or no-shows forfeit registration.

LATE POLICY:
If I am not in my seat by 8:00 AM without prior communication, it will be considered a no-show, and registration will be forfeited.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Participants must attend the full 16 hours of training and complete the qualification course of fire.
​
RANGE POLICY:
Rescheduling or missing the range session without notice, including for tardiness, incurs a $50 rescheduling fee.
​
RANGE FEE:
Participants are responsible for all range fees, which are approximately $30. These fees will be collected during class and processed by VRTA, LLC on behalf of participants.
